Less stress, more orgasms, and improved hair growth!
Let's talk about SEX, sorry STRESS for a quick minute
In the fast-paced world that is today, what we commonly call 'stress', often becomes an unavoidable reality. While a little stress can be easy to deal with, too much can impact both our mental and physical health.
Stress is often referenced as one of the biggest culprits of hair loss in both women (Female pattern baldness, also called Androgenetic alopecia), and men (Male-pattern baldness, also called Androgenetic alopecia), or decreased growth. And trust us, If you're experiencing one of these symptoms, you're not alone. The stats say, 50% of women will experience hair loss at some point in their life.¹
When you're body goes into stressed mode, it causes your adrenal glands to produce cortisol. And when you hit those high levels of cortisol, it can impact the regulation of the hair growth cycle, and this then causes your hair follicles to prematurely shift from the growth phase (anagen) into the resting phase (telogen). The outcome of this shift, that nasty little thing we mentioned earlier, hair loss, thinning, or decreased growth!³ I mean come on, can't we catch a break?!!
Can I lower cortisol levels and improve hair growth?
Heck yes you can! WOOHOO - we can hear you shouting from your roof tops, and so are we! The marvels of enjoying pleasure, making sure that diet of yours is balanced, getting a solid 8 hours of sleep (we know this is always hard - that was not a pun), and getting in that ever elusive exercise are just some ways to lower your cortisol levels.
It is widely known, (this was news to us) that if you're climaxing and enjoying yourself during sex, you'll often notice an improvement in your skin and quality of hair. This new glow-up is primarily due to the hormones your body is releasing during the deed. And you don't need to tell us twice, this can also be a solo act!
In 2009, the University of Michigan examined how sexual arousal influenced women's hormones. They found that when women orgasmed, it activated the release of oxytocin, causing their cortisol levels to decrease.²
If you're like us, then you're probably thinking, 'what are these hormones, I need to know more?' So to better understand them both, we've broken them down into language we can all understand. Yes, you can hold the applause till later, we don't mind.
The mythical Oxytocin?
Often revered as the love hormone, it's that calming, warm, and fuzzy feeling we all get post orgasm. For women, oxytocin has many positive effects. Just to name a few; decreased anxiety and stress levels. Some even coined it as the all-natural anti-stress drug.
The amazing Cortisol?
Cortisol is a steroid hormone, often referred to as the stress hormone, due to its connection to the body's stress response. Remember earlier we talked about this. When you feel stressed, your cortisol levels grow, thereby causing an increase in both your heart rate and blood pressure.
Want combat this? One of the healthiest ways, once again, have an orgasm. Sheesh, we'll need to clean the sheets again! Not only is an orgasm an excellent way to unwind, it's also a great way to improve hair growth and quality.
Feeling stressed? Want to improve your hair growth? Then get on it and go to pleasure town people! We recommend having a little fun and occasionally (or not so occasionally), climaxing, whether alone or with a special someone.
